Development resumed · Open source
Banana App is designed to help surplus food move directly from where it is available to nearby people who can use it—quickly, practically, and with dignity.
Volunteer-built civic technologyThe idea
Food businesses and community donors often have good food that cannot be sold. Banana App explores a direct, time- and location-aware way for that food to reach people instead of becoming waste.
How it works
A food business or donor posts available surplus food.
Nearby community members see time- and location-relevant offers.
Food moves directly from where it is available to where it is needed.

The technology
The existing public code spans mobile, web administration, and backend services. The next version puts privacy, reliability, accessibility, and a simpler experience at the center.
Current chapter
Earlier iOS releases established the concept. The current team is reviewing what should be preserved, modernized, simplified, or retired before a new public release.
